Well behaved women rarely make history.
Park Slope
I love this neighborhood. I went out there last night to check out the apartment of a friend of a friend, and to walk around a bit to see if it might be somewhere Bree and I would want to live. Its a little far for Brees midtown commute, so we will have to keep looking, but this place is really beautiful.
It reminds me of that romantic new york. The one that you see in Woody Allen movies, but...

Angelika Flim Center
The Anglelika has only been here since 1989, but somehow its hard to think of it as anything less than a New York institution. The large cafe in front offers gelato, local pastries and espresso in addition to the popcorn and candy movie classics. Get here early because having a little snack beforehand while people watching is half the fun. The crowd is very downtown, with students sitting next...
Spoonbread Too
Will and I took an hour subway ride to Flatbush to find chicken and waffles (fat) only to discover our destination had closed and was now a pharmacy. So instead of being defeated we hopped right back on the metro uptown to Harlem and ended up finding Spoonbread Too. Best effing soul food… ever. The bananna pudding is not a joke. GO THERE!
They also serve a local beer called Sugar Hill...
The Script at Webster Hall
OMG fell in LOVE with this band in Ireland and I was SO GLAD they were here! The show sold out, which shocked me, and I had to scalp tickets from craigslist but it ended up being so so SO worth it. We made friends with the security guard, and he brought us up to sit in the VIP section and it was incredible.

Park Avenue Bike Ride
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/summerstreets/html/about/about.shtml
Will and I did this on Saturday with the Door man Victor from next door. Park avenue is closed to traffic and bikers are free to ride all the way down the the Brooklyn Bridge. The best three Saturdays in August thank you Mr. Bloomberg!
We took advantage of the free ferry to Govenors Island, and brought our bikes for a little ride...
Pianos
Jakes band played here. Or his friends band, I cant remember. Regardless, this place has super tasty cheeseburgers for like 8 or 9 dollars and there is usually a good band upstairs without a cover. Downstairs in the back though, 10 dollar cover. So watch out for that.

French Roast
its 4am, youre on your way home from the bar, youre hungry, where do you go? French Roast. An upper west side classic. Open 24 hours, serves breakfast all day, AND has a full bar, if you arent quite ready to stop drinking yet. They serve omelets with truffle fries, for around 10 dollars. SERIOUSLY legit fries, btw.

The Beauty Bar
favorite bar in nyc so far! Bree and I found it in the Village Voice and it is very cool. 10 dollars gets you a manicure AND a cocktail, if thats your thing. We were more in it for the tiny dance floor in the back. Andy Rourke from The Smiths spins on Wednesday nights, and fridays and Saturdays there are go go dancers and throw back music. The staff is friendly and very CUTE!

The Slipper Room @ 167 Orchard St
This is GREAT when youre in the mood for some place different. The Slipper room is known as the home of New York burlesque and a 5 dollar cover gets you into the tiny little bar with the great big show. This place is ALWAYS standing room only, so get there at least an hour early if you want a table.

TIPS FOR MOVING
I wanted to share our story (my best friend Bree and I) of getting here and renting a place to make it easier for anyone who plans on moving here. Renting in the city is like a whole new world. There are co ops and rent controlled buildings and sublets and illegal sublets and thats just the begining!
My first tip, TRUST NO ONE!
Bree and I decided to rent a mid town studio in a co op building...
